What is the Dark Web?

What is the Dark Web?

Tue, 13 Apr 2021

There is a place where important and personal information goes on the internet. That location is what people call the dark web.

We are now discussing how to access the dark web so you can find out whether or not your information is there and how you can prevent your data from being accessed and brought into the dark web.

What is the Dark Web?

The dark web is infamous for being a center of online criminal activity. The activity can’t get tracked on the dark web and users stay anonymous. It is the main reason it has become a hotbed of illicit activity online. It’s full of saleable information and illicit items. You’ll find numbers of credit cards, hacked accounts, counterfeit money, and more on the dark web.

That isn’t all the dark web is offering, though. There is also a legitimate side to it where you can join a chess club and do other things. Residents in countries ruled under regimes censoring social media use the dark web to publicize the truth about their governments.

Note that getting into the dark web isn’t an illegal act. One can’t get into the dark web though through regular browsers and search engines. Special browsers such as TOR can help uncover the dark web and give you access.

Deep web vs. Dark web

Sometimes the terms deep web and dark web are used interchangeably but not the same. Deep web refers to anything on the internet that is not indexed by a search engine like Google and therefore accessible through that. Deep web content contains anything behind a paywall or requires credentials to sign in. It also includes any content which its owners blocked from indexing web crawlers.

The dark web is an intentionally hidden sub-set of the deep web, requiring access to a specific browser tor. Nobody knows the size of the dark web, but most estimates put it at about 5 percent of the Internet as a whole. Despite its ominous-sounding name, not all the dark web is used for illicit purposes.

Keep yourself protected from the dark Web

It is the invisible side of the Internet from search engines. There are good uses of it but there is also an ocean of criminal activity in the dark web, such as identity fraud.

Identity fraud can be very detrimental to your personal and work life. It can drain your money from your unused credit. That reality is why it is essential to secure your personal information.
