There has always been a chain of commands and strict organizational structure when developing products using traditional approaches. Scrum has introduced the Scrum Master to a role that is completely new. According to the Scrum Guide, a Scrum Master is “a facilitator for the team and the product owner. Rather than manage the team, the scrum masterworks to assist both the scrum team and the product owner.” The scrum master can be thought of as the lighthouse of the scrum team. A lighthouse enables sailors to navigate easily through hazardous areas, harbor entrances, and reach the sound and safety of the shore. Likewise, a scrum master helps the team overcome obstacles and guides them to achieve the best outcome. He ensures that the team understands the scrum’s values and practices and lives by them. Role of a Scrum Master: To maximize the performance and productivity of the Scrum Team, Scrum Master is responsible for demonstrating multiple features. By overcoming plausible obstacles that they might come across, they are responsible for making the team do their best. They do this by serving: Product Owner Development Team The Organization Scrum Master Service to the Product Owner: Helps product owners to formulate efficient product backlog management techniques Ensuring that the product owner knows how to organize the backlog of the product to maximize value Facilitates Scrum occurrences as and when requested by the owner of the product Helps the owner of the product understand and implement agile principles Ensure that everyone involved understands the objectives and scope of the project Imparts in an empirical setting the understanding of product planning Scrum Master Service to the Development Team: Clears project barriers & impediments that could slow the progress of the team Help the team improve their performance and productivity Self-organization and cross-functionality coaching team Facilitates Scrum activities as requested by the team as and when Helps the development team build high-quality goods Help the team understand the values and principles of scrum When Scrum is not yet fully adopted and understood, guide the team Scrum Master Service to the Organization: Guide and coach organization for scrum framework adoption Makes adjustments to increase scrum team productivity Helps stakeholders and staff understand the empirical scrum theory Plan scrum implementations thoroughly within the organization Boost communication and cooperation among the members of the team.
